The coastal road, from La Ferme to Port Mathurin

This is one of the most beautiful scenic roads on the island. The coastal road links La Ferme, on the south-west coast, to Port Mathurin, the capital, following the north-west shoreline of Rodrigues.

What you will see

  • Cliffs and viewpoints over the lagoon
  • Small fishing villages clinging to the shoreline
  • Coves where you can stop spontaneously for a swim
  • Views of the islets in the distance

When to go

In the late afternoon: the golden light on the sea is superb, and you reach Port Mathurin just in time for an aperitif — the moment when the capital comes alive.

  • To do by car (or by scooter for the more adventurous)
  • Duration: 1h30 to 2h with a few photo stops
